I started skating 40 years ago in a small village, from a broken family with nothing but a skate magazine as inspiration. No park, no crew, no coach — just a board and the feeling of rolling that made everything else feel okay.
It wasn't until middle school that I found other skaters and a whole new world opened up. I started getting the hang of basic tricks — the same ones that, 40 years later, are still evolving and still exciting to land.
Skateboarding gave me something that stuck. It's creative, physical, community-driven and deeply personal all at once. You progress at your own pace, you own every trick you land, and the culture welcomes everyone.
